The Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority
The Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA) is a joint-powers authority composed of five member agencies. As the Regional Water Management group for the Santa Ana River Watershed, SAWPA oversees a variety of collaborative programs, including the implementation of the Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Proposition 1 Grant program and facilitation of the One Water One Watershed (OWOW) IRWM Plan.
Water Resources and Policy Initiatives
Water Resources and Policy Initiatives (WRPI), housed at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), develops water management solutions. WRPI’s role in the DCI program is to administer the Community Water Internship and to help facilitate community outreach and and tribal consultation.
University of California, Irvine
The Department of Anthropology and the Newkirk Center for Science and Society, housed at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), are recognized for their ethnographic-research design and community engagement programs. As partners of the DCI program, UCI conducted community listening sessions, analyzed listening session data, and led efforts in creating the Santa Ana River Watershed Community Watershed: An Ethnographic Strengths and Needs Assessment.
Local Government Commission
The Local Government Commission (LGC) works to enhance local leadership by connecting leaders with innovative programs and opportunities. LGC’s role in this program is to conduct local elected official listening sessions and education and training events. LGC is SAWPA’s partner for the Santa Ana Watershed Ambassador Program for local policymakers and the upcoming DACTI IRWM summit in Fall of 2020.
California Rural Water Association
The California Rural Water Association (CRWA) provides on-site technical assistance and training for rural water and wastewater systems. For this project, CRWA collected strength and needs assessment data for mutual water systems in SAWPA’s jurisdiction. Currently, CRWA is carrying out activities related to tribal engagement and consultation. CRWA is also the lead coordinator for DCI-funded technical assistance projects in 8 small water systems across the Santa Ana River Watershed.
CivicSpark
CivicSpark is a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments to address community resilience issues. Two CivicSpark Fellows are placed with SAWPA to support the implementation of the DCI program. The Fellows work on several elements of the program, including drafting portions of the OWOW Plan Update 2018 and co-managing the Community Water Internship program with WRPI.
Water Education Foundation
The Water Education Foundation (WEF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering better understanding of water resources. As a DCI partner, WEF is creating an Engagement Best Practices document and partnered with SAWPA to conduct two State of the Santa Ana Watershed Conferences.
