We condemn in the strongest terms the racist, vitriolic, and lewd images and words that were expressed by members of the public during the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA) Commission Meeting, especially the comments directed towards a SAWPA Commissioner. SAWPA does not tolerate hate speech, racial harassment, or indecent acts of any kind. We stand in full support of the Commissioner who was targeted and want to make it clear that such conduct has no place at SAWPA.
We are currently reevaluating our technological practices and Commission policies, as well as training, to ensure that SAWPA meetings are a safe and inclusive space where all individuals can attend and participate in local governance.
